Dr. Kagan grew up in Ft. Myers, Florida and attended Ft. Myers Senior High School, graduating as class valedictorian. He attended college at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia where he majored in physics. He went to medical school and did his orthopedic residency at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
Dr. Kagan did fellowships in arthritis surgery in Leuven, Belgium and Denver, Colorado. He co-authored one of the original papers on polyethylene wear in tibial components in total knee replacements. He is involved in many national and international orthopedic organizations.
He has been very active in sports and sports medicine. He served as a consultant to the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs and served as president of a national society that focuses on swimming sports medicine. He has been a national team physician to the U.S. Swimming Team, accompanying them at competitions all over the world.
Dr. Kagan is very proud of his leadership of the Florida Orthopedic Society, which has been recognized as the best state orthopedic society in the United States on several occasions.
He serves as local team physician for the Boston Red Sox and is team physician for Bishop Verot High School.
